Three Ways To Invite Nature Into Your Rental Property

No painting, no hanging artwork, no pets…and the list goes on. As a renter, do you feel as if there are more “don’ts” than “dos”? I know just what you mean. I’m all into biophilic design (the human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature : a desire or tendency to commune with nature). If connecting with nature is important to you too, here are three ways to do so safely as a renter.

  1. Live Plants. This is an obvious choice, right? Purify the air in your indoor space by selecting a plant that works well inside. Succulents are a great choice because they keep producing oxygen throughout the night. Don’t forget that natural light is essential since all plants are indigenous to the outdoors. However, some plants can do well in lower light. Your local nursery can help you make the best selection. Be sure to let them know which direction your windows face.

  2. Water. The sound of water is said to induce a wave of neurochemicals that promote wellness, increase blood flow to the brain and heart, and induce relaxation. Why not invest in a simple water feature like this Indoor 3-Tier Relaxation Tabletop Fountain (paid link) sold on Amazon.com.

  3. Pattern. Believe it or not, there are tons of patterns in nature that connect us to the outdoors. Why not bring those organic patterns into your space through an area rug, curtain panels, towels, or any other accessory? The pattern doesn’t have to be a literal version of nature. It can be subtle like this area rug Palm Leaf Hand Tufted Area Rug I found on Wayfair.com.

Interacting with nature in your rented space is easier than you think.
